Hi, and welcome to the GOD blog. Blogging for the Lord since today! I figure, I condemn people to fire and damnation on a daily basis. Why not share that joy?
Let's start with Ann Coulter. Ann Coulter is not nice. Ann Coulter makes a lot of money being not nice. She also makes a lot of friends by calling Democratic presidential nominees "faggots." Wait, no. She doesn't actually.
The problem with Ann isn't that she says the things she says; she is a person who wants to get a message across in the most agressive way possible. She is just a female Howard Stern. Not K. There is nothing inherently wrong with what she says. She is entitled to her opinions. Yes, she's a homophobe, a flaming racist, and a little uppity. She's also a young, fairly attractive female who is speaking up for the Republican party. She's going to get her right-wing props because the Republicans have always been a "good old boy" group closed to those who are not male, not white or not rich.
Do I hate Ann Coulter? Yes. Do I admire her? Somewhat. She's got some man-sized balls to say what she says in our culture today. Clearly, she's not a fan of Will and Grace, which unfortunately is where a lot of the leading, straight Democrats get their political views on gays. But she does give me something to seethe about. I enjoy doing that.
Don't be mad at Annie for what she said. Be mad at the people who applauded her hateful ass. Be angry with Dick Cheney, who she was there to introduce, who has an openly pregnant, lesbian daughter and he hasn't spoken up to say she was in the wrong.
I also encourage people who are against the things she stands for to get up off your asses and do something. Hate the way Ann Coulter called John Edwards a faggot? Honey, send him some cash. Write your representatives and tell them you want gays and lesbians to be allowed the same rights as anyone else. March in that pride parade. Just don't complain when she doesn't stop saying hateful things. She isn't going to.
